Pepón Nieto Leads the Cast of “The Comedy of Errors” to a Standing Ovation

The cast of the play, with Pepón Nieto at the center, received applause from the audience. Pepón Nieto masterfully leads the cast of “The Comedy of Errors,” a hilarious play that filled the municipal theater in his city, Marbella, this Friday, and had the audience laughing non-stop.

A Classic Shakespearean Comedy Brought to Life

The play, a true comedy of errors, was written by William Shakespeare and produced by the Mérida Classic Theatre Festival under the direction of Andrés Lima. Pepón Nieto, a native of Marbella, triumphed in his hometown with this hilarious play, in which he is part of a brilliant group of actors bringing to life this free and fun adaptation of Shakespeare’s work.

A Cast of Six Playing Over Twenty Characters

Six actors portray more than twenty characters, as they explain themselves. “We can’t keep up,” they say. They even have to clarify during the play which character they are representing at that moment, with a subtle humor that deepens the audience’s laughter.

“The Comedy of Errors”: A Fast-Paced, Interactive Play

“The Comedy of Errors,” adapted by Albert Boronat and directed by Andrés Lima, is a choral work, energetic, with a frenetic pace, in which the actors end up interacting with the audience. They even turn some of the spectators in the front rows into part of the cast, contributing a few small phrases, which they have previously whispered to them, or they give them beers.

Modernized Classic Theater Set in Ancient Greece

The play is almost two hours of modernized classic theater, set in Ephesus, an ancient city in Greece, now in Turkey. Pepón Nieto is brilliant, perfectly mastering the comedy register, to play several characters, although mainly Antipholus of Syracuse. He also stands out in his roles as Mother Abbess and as Solinus, the Duke of Ephesus.

A Stellar Cast of Male and Female Characters

Alongside Nieto are Antonio Pagudo, Fernando Soto, Rulo Pardo, Avelino Piedad, and Esteban Garrido. They play both male and female characters, which adds even more humor to the story. The plot revolves around the confusion that arises between two twin brothers and their servants, who are also twins.

A Successful Start to the Theater Season

The audience that filled the Marbella City Theater enjoyed, laughed, and rewarded the actors with a long applause, in addition to recognizing their fellow countryman. It was a great start, with sold-out tickets, to the theater program that the City Council has prepared from January to May.
