Malaga Faces Orange Weather Alert as Temperatures Expected to Reach 41C

The Spanish city of Malaga is bracing for a heatwave, with an orange weather alert issued in anticipation of temperatures soaring as high as 41C today and tomorrow. The alert has been issued by AEMET, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency, which attributes the intense heat to the ‘terral’ wind.

The Terral Wind: The Culprit Behind the Searing Heat

The terral wind, a gust of air originating from the north-west, is known to heat up significantly as it travels southwards before reaching the coast. This wind is largely responsible for the scorching temperatures expected this week in Malaga.

Peak Heat Hours: 1pm to 9pm

AEMET has further warned that the hottest periods of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to be between 1pm and 9pm. Residents and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions during these hours.

Continued High Temperatures and Yellow Warnings

The heatwave follows a week of high temperatures along the Costa del Sol, with the mercury hitting 35C in Marbella on Sunday, marking the hottest day of the month along with July 19. The high temperatures are set to continue, with a yellow warning remaining in place for Thursday.

High Temperature Warnings Across Andalucia

In addition to Malaga, yellow warnings for high temperatures have also been issued across other cities in Andalucia, including Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba. Residents in these areas are also advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe in the heat.
