Hitmen accused of murdering Marbella businessman go on trial and face life sentences

On Monday, 20th November 2023, a trial began in Malaga for two men accused of murdering a businessman in Marbella in 2019. If convicted, they could face life imprisonment. According to court documents viewed by Europa Press, the defendants are believed to be part of a criminal organization based in the Netherlands, involved in illegal activities that threaten human lives and property.

The two men are alleged to have accepted a contract to assassinate the businessman as part of their involvement with the group. It is claimed that they traveled to Spain to monitor the businessman at his establishments in Puerto Banús. They are accused of following him to his residence in San Pedro one evening, where they allegedly shot him while he was still in his car around 3.09am on 21st January 2019. The businessman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the alleged assailants fled.

The prosecution stated that the victim had no chance to defend himself or escape from the sudden and unexpected attack while he was still in his car. The defendants are also accused of setting their escape vehicle on fire two days after the incident.

The charges against the two men include membership in a criminal organization, murder, illegal possession of firearms, and arson. Along with a life sentence, the prosecution is also seeking 245,000 euros in compensation for the victim’s family.
