Unexpected Discovery in Nueva Andalucía
A routine morning walk in the Nueva Andalucía region of Marbella took an unexpected turn when a submerged Mercedes minibus van was discovered in the Las Tortugas lake. The lake, known for its scenic beauty and frequented by hikers and families, was the scene of this unusual find. A local resident spotted the roof of the van through the clear lake water during his morning stroll.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
Upon the discovery, several police teams and the fire brigade were immediately dispatched to the location. The scene was shrouded in mystery as firefighters prepared to dive into the lake to investigate further. The vehicle was found at a depth of 3.5 meters, and fortunately, it was empty with no one inside.
Vehicle Retrieved and Investigation Launched
The Local Police and firefighters, with the assistance of a crane, managed to pull the van out of the water. The vehicle was identified as belonging to the VTC company. The company reported that the Mercedes had been in service the previous night – Sunday – but the driver was unaccounted for. This raised questions about how the vehicle ended up in the lake and the whereabouts of the driver, prompting the National Police to initiate an investigation.
Driver Found Safe, No Charges Filed
In a final attempt to locate the driver, the fire brigade teams dived back into the lake. However, the driver was found safe and sound at a different location, approximately 24 hours after the search began. According to the provincial headquarters of the National Police force, the driver confirmed that the vehicle’s plunge into the lake was accidental. As a result, he will not face any charges.
