Tragic Jet Ski Collision Claims Life in Marbella
A 26-year-old man tragically lost his life on Saturday, 24th August, following a collision between his jet ski and a pleasure boat in Marbella. The incident, which occurred around six in the evening, is currently under investigation by the Guardia Civil.
Emergency Services Respond to Collision Alert
Multiple calls were made to the emergency services, reporting a serious injury following the collision. The 112 Andalucía emergency coordination centre promptly dispatched the Guardia Civil and Spain’s Salvamento Marítimo maritime rescue service to the scene.
Despite Rescue Efforts, Jet Ski Driver Succumbs to Injuries
The jet ski driver was rescued alive from the scene. However, despite the best efforts of the medical team to revive him, his death was confirmed shortly after. This marks the second fatal jet ski accident in Marbella this summer.
Previous Jet Ski Accident Claims Life of a Child
Just three weeks prior to this incident, a child tragically died when the jet ski he was riding with his father capsized. The family, who were holidaying on the Costa del Sol, had borrowed the jet ski from friends for a day at the beach. The accident occurred when the jet ski hit a wave and capsized in a shallow area of the sea.
Increasing Number of Fatalities Involving Watercraft on Costa del Sol
Since July 2023, four people have tragically lost their lives in accidents involving jet skis along the Costa del Sol’s coastline. In the past year alone, two other fatal accidents have occurred in the province of Malaga.
Previous Fatal Accidents Involving Jet Skis
One of these accidents occurred on 16th July last year, during the Virgen del Carmen festivities in Malaga city. A 32-year-old woman named Marina died after falling from a jet ski while trying to retrieve her cap. Shortly after, on 9th August, a 32-year-old French man also lost his life in a similar accident in Fuengirola.
