Marbella Castle Restoration Project Nears Completion

The restoration of Marbella Castle, the largest monument in the municipality, is set to be completed by July. The castle, designated as a Building of Cultural Interest, signifies the town’s medieval origins. However, its abandonment for military use led to significant structural deterioration. The situation was further exacerbated by the construction of houses along its walls, which incorporated parts of the castle’s structure.

Town Hall’s Initiative to Preserve Historical Heritage

The town hall took the initiative to restore the castle, with the project commencing six months ago at an expense of 520,645 euros. The project is expected to be completed in July, as per the town hall’s announcement. The restoration involved the expertise of specialized companies and archaeologists, made possible through a collaboration with the ministry of development and an investment of 450,000 euros.

Enhancing Public Spaces and Preserving History

Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz stated that previously inaccessible areas have been renovated and will be highlighted with unique lighting to emphasize the historical value of the site for both residents and visitors.

Archaeological Surveys and Probes Completed

In related news, construction company Grupo Loen commissioned Arqueotectura, a civil archaeology firm, to conduct probes and surveys on a site adjacent to Sevillana de Electricidad, which was sold by Endesa to Neckob Inversiones S.L. The surveys have been completed.

Upcoming Archaeological Report

Grupo Loen announced that an archaeological report will be submitted to the ministry of culture in June. The report, prepared by archaeologist José María Tomasseti under the supervision of the Junta de Andalucía and town hall technicians, will detail the inventory, deposit, and processing of archaeological materials prior to the construction project.
