Plans for New Justice Palace and Police Station at La Torrecilla Estate
The La Torrecilla Estate, where the new Justice Palace and Police Station are planned, is ready for development, according to Marbella’s Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz. She has requested the Ministry of Interior to start tendering for the new Police Station, which is planned for this estate. The Andalusian Government is also expected to construct the new Justice Palace on the same site.
Access to La Torrecilla Estate from Ojén Road
The project to improve access to the La Torrecilla plot from the Ojén road is now complete. However, the estate, located opposite the Virgen del Carmen cemetery in Marbella, is still awaiting urbanization and the creation of access from the Ojén road.
Mayor’s Statement on the Project
Mayor Muñoz spoke about the project after the Local Security Board meeting. She mentioned that the access project is in its final stages and will be ready soon. After the European elections, she plans to sign an agreement with the Andalusian Government to undertake these works on a regional road from the City Council.
Cost of Urbanization and Access Works
In October last year, the Mayor estimated the cost of urbanization and access works at La Torrecilla to be over 15 million euros. The new Justice Palace and the new National Police Station of Marbella are planned for this plot.
Interior Ministry’s Role in the Project
Regarding the new infrastructure, Mayor Muñoz stated that the Ministry of Interior could start the project and even tender the construction. She added that there is no need to wait for the completion of the access as the construction parameters are already determined.
Post-European Elections Plans
The Mayor added that the City Council will tender the access once the aforementioned agreement with the Andalusian Government is signed, after the European elections in June. She also offered a 1,000 square meter plot in San Pedro Alcántara to improve the facilities of the National Police in this core.
La Torrecilla Estate
On September 25, 2020, the initial approval for the transfer of 13,000 square meters at La Torrecilla for the new Justice Palace was made in the Plenary. The final delivery was agreed in another plenary on May 17, 2021. The Mayor said that the tender would be made before the end of 2022.
Land Transfer for New Police Station
On December 23, 2020, the City Council Plenary approved the transfer to the State of a plot of more than 7,300 square meters in the La Torrecilla area to build a new Police Station. Neither of the two infrastructures could be carried out because the City Council has not yet solved the problem of access to the estate or the urbanization of the land.
